Nicholas Brendon, an actor with an estimated net worth of $6.4 million, is currently making headlines after he defended his controversial walk out on the set of the pre-taped episode of "Dr. Phil" last month. Brendon's abrupt departure reportedly came after Dr. Phil Show brought up his troubled past and alcohol abuse.
Best known for playing the role of Xander Harris in the television series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" from 1997 to 2003, Nicholas Brendon has amassed his $6.4 million net worth as listed by The Richest. He also starred as Kevin Lynch in "Criminal Minds" from 2007 up to the present. Since last year, the 44-year actor-writer has been writing on the "Buffy" Season 10 comic book.
Nicholas Brendon, however, has been a long term sufferer of alcoholism, Celebrity Net Worth revealed. In 2004, he first sought help for this problem and announced during a "Buffy" fan convention in Cleveland, Ohio in April of that same year that he had voluntarily entered rehab for alcoholism. Unfortunately, he relapsed and was charged with four misdemeanors in 2010. Brendon then checked himself into the SOBA Recovery Center in Malibu due to alcohol abuse and sleeping pills.
In the last eight months, Nicholas Brendon, who has a $6.4 million net worth, revealed that he has been battling depression and alcohol abuse and has found himself arrested five times. According to Dr. Phil Snow's article on Huffington Post, he started socially drinking at the age of 26 and soon became a way for him to cope with anxiety. He also leaned on alcoholism because he can't handle his emotions.
"Dual diagnosis means that I'm [expletive] crazy, and I'm a [expletive] drunk," Brendon said. "Depression is a real thing; and I was ashamed of it a little bit, too."
During the interview that aired Wednesday, Dr. Phil told Nicholas Brendon that he wanted to make a plan to save his life. However, when asked about his behavior, he walked out. On that same day, Brendon took to Facebook and write a lengthy post where he explained his actions and defended himself and his family, Us Weekly noted.
"Dr. Phil had some hard words for my mother, who I love dearly and who I have caused more heartache than I care to remember," he wrote. "I always have and always will take full responsibility for my actions. I will also defend my loved ones. I am grateful for the support of my family, girlfriend and my wonderful fans. By no means am I a perfect person, but I am also not the monster as portrayed by this show."
Meanwhile, a rep for the show told People that Nicholas Brendon chose to leave before the dialogue with Dr. Phil started.
"There was no drama, he simply chose to leave and did so in a respectful manner," the rep said. "His family and associates remained and participated fully and productively. Dr. Phil has nothing but the highest respect for Nicholas and wishes him the best in his quest for physical/mental health and sobriety, and stands ready to assist him in any way possible."
With all the drama in Nicholas Brendon's life, will he take the steps needed to save his life, career and net worth?
