Was Ohio Mom ‘Legally Sane’ When She Decapitated 3-Month-Old Daughter?

Was embattled Ohio mom Deasia Watkins legally sane when she beheaded her own baby, 3-month-old Janiayah, back in March? This is the question that experts are still trying to answer in the wake of the brutal crime that a mom is being accused of committing.

According to Cincinnati.com, the Ohio mom's attorneys are still waiting for the result of the investigation on the brutal murder of a 3-month-old six months ago.

Watkins previously made headlines for being accused of decapitating her own daughter and pleading not guilty to the crime for the very reason that she was allegedly not sane at the time of the murder.

Initially, the 20-year-old mom was found to be incompetent to stand trial by a Hamilton County, Ohio judge. However, it was found out recently that judge has changed this and has now regarded the embattled parent to be competent to stand trial amid the aggravated murder charge.

Attorney Norman Aubin said just this Thursday that Deasia's competency has been restored, but he has claimed that his client's mental illness prevented her from fully understanding what she did to her own daughter at the time, ABC News reported.

In March, authorities found Watkins swathed in blood as she lay in bed while her daughter was discovered to have been beheaded in the same home. The baby was also found to have been stabbed and she also had a fractured arm as per the crime scene investigation at the time.

Aubin said that if the result of the investigation of experts contradict what the prosecution has maintained about the mental state of the Ohio mom, another judge will most likely be appointed to act as a third expert.

The accused Ohio mom's case is set for another hearing on Oct. 15.

The embattled mom was previously diagnosed with postpartum psychosis, as reported by Daily Mail.
