‘Castle’ Season 8 [SPOILERS]: 5 Reasons Why ABC’s Procedural Drama Gets Rebirth With Changes-Themed More Character-Driven Show

ABC's hit police procedural series, "Castle" Season 8, seems to be starting over again. Known for its cliffhangers, the upcoming season is reportedly starting fresh with changes and reinvention as its themes, both in storylines and production.

"Castle" Season 8 returns with a dual-perspective two-hour episode titled, "XY" and "XX," which will follow through Castle and Beckett's perspectives, respectively. And since the show will be overseen by new showrunners, Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley, the long-running ABC drama will feature major changes.

So, here are 5 reasons why "Castle" Season 8 gets a "rebirth" with changes-themed more character-driven show.

1. Castle's New Partners-In-Crime

"The Neighbors" alum Toks Olagundoye is joining Season 8 as investigator Hayley Shipton. She will be working with Rick Castle but the twist is that she's not working with the police. Aside from Shipton, Castle's daughter, Alexis, will be following his footsteps and will join Castle's private investigator venture, which might turn into a family business, International Business Times revealed.

2. Bromantic duo Kevin (Seamus Dever) and Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) will face a new challenge.

The Devers are welcoming another baby in "Castle" Season 8. Though this seems to be great news, the baby will complicate things at work for the partners. And since Beckett will take the responsibilities of the new captain, it will be "a lot more heavy" on Ryan and Esposito doing more things with the case, Yahoo! TV noted.

3. Beckett's promotion as the new captain of 12th precinct will isolate her in the office?

Despite Beckett's promotion in "Castle" Season 8, she will still venture out in the field.

"She's not an ivory-tower boss who stays in her office doing paperwork," Winter said, as per Cinema Blend. "She still gets her hands dirty."

4. Rick and Kate to become new parents to their own child?

"Castle" fans have been looking forward to see Rick and Kate as new parents to their own baby, according to Design & Trend. And the co-showrunners emphasized that couple's love story will continue to be the focus of the show. Perhaps, even exploring the possibility of the couple's own child.

"The DNA of the show will always be the ongoing love story between Castle and Beckett," Winter told TV Insider. "We still treat every episode as a romantic comedy. With murder."

5. "Castle" Season 8 will focus more on character development.

"We came in with a conscious idea of telling a complete story this year," Hawley told The Hollywood Reporter. "The majority of Castle episodes are stand-alones ... they're cases of the week. We want to start a storyline in these first two episodes that we revisit as we go through the season. We are constantly changing the character dynamics and there are new things to discover. We're excited about it because we think this allows us to dig deeper into our characters on the show in a new, exciting way."
