The "Black Panther" movie is still far away, but here is "Black Panther" news that will make the fans giddy with anticipation.
Te-Nehisi Coates, a prominent American writer, was reported by Vultureto be penning the new "Black Panther" comic series. Coates, one of America's best and brilliant writers regarding race, as well as other diverse topics, will now add writing for comic books to his belt.
It could not be more fitting as the "Black Panther" is Marvel's first and foremost black superhero. Coates has also reported that, although he has yet to write a comic, he is a big fan of superheroes.
As reported by the New York Times, Ta-Nehisi Coates can be identified in many ways. Among them are a national correspondent for The Atlantic, an author, a nominee for the National Book Awards and now, comic book writer.
Coates has said that writing the comic book was his childhood dream, but due to his job at The Atlantic, he was prevented from fulfilling it.
"The Atlantic is a pretty diverse place in terms of interest, but there are no comics nerds," besides himself, Mr. Coates said in an interview.
But now that he has a chance to finally fulfil his dream, Coates shared how he got this chance. During The Atlantic's seminar last May, he was tasked to interview Sana Amanat, a Marvel Editor, regarding the diversity and inclusion in comic books.
Amanat is known for leading the creation of the new "Ms. Marvel," a teenage Muslim girl is living in New Jersey. After the event, Marvel Comics reached out to Coates and started to have discussions about "Black Panther."
As reported by The Guardian, Coates also credited Marvel for opening racial diversity in comics.
"Marvel opened the doors, right? You have Storm, there's a black Iron Man in the 80s, the second X-Men generation — you have the Native American Thunderbird. You have heroes that look all sorts of ways," Coates said.
As for the movie, "Black Panther" is due for release on July 6, 2018.
