A new "The Exorcist" movie is reportedly in the works to welcome new generations of fans to the franchise.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, Morgan Creek, the production house of "The Exorcist," has hired an investment banking group to sell domestic rights to some of its films; however, they will retain remake rights for five titles: "Ace Ventura," "Major League," "Young Guns," "Flying Tigers" and "The Exorcist."
That can only mean one thing for fans, a new "The Exorcist" movie has the possibility of being remade.
It's been more than 40 years since the original "The Exorcist" movie hit the big screen and made us hide under the covers when we sleep.
However, Brad Miska, writer for Bloody-Disgusting, expressed his doubts whether the remake can match the charm and shocking horror of the original movie. He then went on to say, "This is just a lame cash-grab."
As for the reasons of the criticism, Miska cites that our society has become overly politically correct, making it harder to shock modern audiences.
What made the film original and absolutely terrifying was its brutal portrayal of a child being possessed by a demon.
As for Morgan Creek Productions, IGN reported that the company is not in debt and according to their CEO Jim Robinson, the money made from the sale will be used to fund future productions.
Robinson said, "We have a number of properties that we are looking to move forward on."
He further added that discussions are being currently made for remakes of "The Exorcist," "Ace Ventura" and "Major League."
Apart from the said remakes, Morgan Creek is also currently producing a Tupac biopic, Deadline has learned.
The biopic titled "Tupac," will chronicle the life of one of the most prolific and well-known rappers in history, whose career was cut short when he was killed in a drive-by.
