"Doctor Who" is returning to the small screen this Saturday night, and fans are excited to see what's in store for tonight's show given last week's premiere. Below are three things fans can expect from the BBC America series' episode 2.
1. The death of Davros?
Finally, The Doctor will get the chance to have a face-off with his oldest enemy, Davros. According to International Business Times, Peter Capaldi's character is now more eager and determined to kill the leader of the Daleks.
In the sneak peek at the upcoming episode, the show teases that The Doctor is going to point a gun at Davros while the latter asks, "You would threaten a dying man? Have I not suffered enough?" The teaser then shows The Doctor asking Davros to leave, but the latter retorts, "I cannot leave this chamber. It sustains me." Will The Doctor finally kill Davros? Find out by tuning in on BBC America's "Doctor Who" tonight.
2. The absence of Clara
In the premiere episode of "Doctor Who" Season 9, fans saw Davros and the Daleks killing Michelle Gomez's Missy and Jenna Coleman's Clara. In the promotional materials for episode 2, there is no hint about Clara's return, but this is not at all surprising since Coleman has already revealed that she is leaving the show this season.
Opening up about her departure, she told Entertainment Weekly, "My contract was up at the end of last season, so that initiated conversations of, 'Okay, when and how?' I don't know how a story was leaked that I was leaving - it was because the contract was up. There were just ongoing discussions about how to end Clara's story, as it were, in the TARDIS, and this is where it ended up."
She also spoke about how it felt to film her final scenes on her final day on "Doctor Who." The actress said, "It did not feel real at all. I mean, it's become more my home than my home actually is. It was just really weird. But we film out of sequence as well so, my last part with Peter, I couldn't quite look at him because it wasn't supposed to be a sad part. It's hard to go into detail without telling you anything, but I was really overwhelmed."
3. Missy and The Doctor's romance?
Promotional materials for "Doctor Who" Season 9 episode 2 already revealed that Missy is back this Saturday night, and she is bound to face off with some aliens. With her return upon getting killed last week, questions about her relationship with The Doctor surfaced.
Actress Michelle Gomez answered these questions ahead of episode 2 saying, "They [Missy and the Doctor] are still opposite magnets, mostly repelling, but at times they also attract." She then went on to say, "There is an undeniable shorthand that comes with a lifelong friendship. A friendship that at some point went very wrong."
Does this mean Missy and The Doctor will finally get a romantic storyline? After all, Missy and the titular character shared a kiss in the previous season. However, it appears that fans should not hold their breath on this one since Gomez set the record straight when she said, "Oh, she'll snog anything! She'd snog a Dalek," as quoted by The Scotsman.
"The Witch's Familiar" is set to air this Saturday evening. Tune in on BBC America at 9 p.m. EDT for "Doctor Who" Season 9 Episode 2.
