The 21-year-old Canadian pop superstar is currently making headlines after he implied that he's been regularly dating someone despite telling Ellen DeGeneres that he's single earlier this month. Aside from his current relationship status, the "Baby" hitmaker also opened up about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Ever since his breakup with Selena Gomez in 2014, Justin Bieber's dating status has always sparked the curiosity of his fans as well as several showbiz onlookers. In his new Complex magazine cover shoot, the "What Do You Mean" singer revealed that he's dating and also went into details about his on-and-off again relationship with Selena Gomez.
"I learned a lot," Bieber said of his romance with Gomez, which started in 2011, as per Us Weekly. "I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing. Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age. But we were so in love. Nothing else mattered."
Justin Bieber also added that he and Gomez were all about each other when they were dating. And he even detailed how so much dependence they had with each other, which could lead to his destruction at an early age.
"My identity was in her," he admitted. "Her identity was in me. When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin' mind, and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other... I can't lean on people. I got to lean on God. I gotta trust in him through all my situations. Then, hopefully, my other relationships will flourish around me."
Moreover, Justin Bieber also spoke about comparing future dating relationships to the one he had with Selena Gomez, Hollywood Life noted.
"I'm kind of seeing this girl, right?" he told Complex, as per Elle. "I'm shy about doing or saying certain things, and then I say it and it's not even a problem. And I'll remember when I couldn't.... You're just scarred and you don't do something because in your last relationship they'd freak out, but [the new person is] just like, 'What are you talking about?'"
In 2014, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez finally separated for good, after breaking up multiple times during their three-year relationship. However, Bieber's take on their romance is quite different to Gomez's, whose public reflections have been slightly hopeful. According to Sydney Morning Herald, the "Heart Wants What It Wants" songstress said their relationship carried an intensity well beyond their years. She was also quite positive in her experience.
"It almost felt like all we had was each other, like the world was against us, in a way," she told V Magazine in February. "It was really weird, but it was incredible. I would never take it back in a million years."
Selena Gomez also hinted that she's not closing her doors to the possibility of rekindling her romance with Justin Bieber when asked whether or not she'd ever get back with her ex by responding with the words, "I don't know."
