Recreational Marijuana in America is on the rise recently. This is due to more and more states declaring the legalization of the said drug.
Apart from Colorado, Oregon is the next state to declare the legality of recreational Marijuana. According to a report by Press Telegram, weed enthusiasts flocked stores, eager to try their first recreational pot in the state.
And, as reported, some of the more than 250 weed dispensaries welcomed lines and lines of customers soon after midnight, just moments after it became legal to sell to anyone who is at least 21 years old.
Shane McKee, co-founder of Shango Premium Cannabis said in a phone interview that, "I think it's not only historical for folks in Oregon but nationwide -- anytime people start selling that as an alternative to alcohol or tobacco."
In a similar report by Register Guard, some customers waited all night just to have their weed fix. David Johnson, one of the eager customers said, "I sat here all night waiting."
Other recreational Marijuana enthusiasts like Mike Cook and Scott Ballin even pulled up chairs at 5 AM in the morning just to wait for the weed stores to open.
Plenty of pot buyers expressed a mixture of delight and disbelief on the fact that, after years of buying the drug illegally on some black market, they can now simply walk-in and buy their Marijuana of choice.
"Did I really just do that?" Mark Abel, 29, said outside Cannabliss on 11th Avenue and Patterson Street, clutching two small bags with a gram of marijuana inside each.
According to Contra Costa Times, Oregon voters approved of Measure 91 last November of 2014 to finally legalize Marijuana use.
As for concerns regarding the negative effects of the drug, California Highway Patrol said that, "In the case of marijuana, it doesn't matter if it's legal or illegal, medicinal or not -- a driver who is impaired can be cited or arrested for driving under the influence because he or she is engaging in a dangerous behavior that puts everyone on the road at risk."
Marijuana enthusiasts have been clamoring for legalization for years and little by little, their pleas are getting answered.
