50 Cent recently expressed why he thinks "Empire" is losing its audience. Acoording to him, the reason for a recent dip in the Fox series' ratings is featurig too much "gay stuff."
According to a report by The Wrap, 50 Cent said in an Instagram post that the reason Fox's hit TV series fell in the ratings is because of too many "gay" plots, in addition to too many celebrity cameos.
In the Instagram post that has since been deleted, 50 Cent said "There are 3 million less viewers who tuned into last night's Empire episode!!!! did you watch it? We could not take the extra gay stuff or celebrity stuff last night!!!!"
Cinema Blend reports that the "gay stuff" the rapper-turned-businessman may be referring to is likely the character Jamal, who appeared on a British talk show entitled "Spilling the Tea." In last week's episode, he pushed the fact that he has a boyfriend, who is important to him on, to the host of the fictional program.
"Empire's" latest episode garnered a 5.4 rating, a clear decrease from its previous score of 6.7. But despite the reported drop in the ratings, the award-winning series was noted by Zap2It to be still reigning its time slot.
It seems that 50 Cent is bothered by the drop and can't help but comment on the standing of the show. However, BET stated that this isn't the first time he dissed the Fox series. According to previous reports, he earlier called it "some sh*t you get for free," and compared it to his premium cable series, "Power," which he was noted to say "worth paying for."
However, the "Power" producer should not be worried as his show just recently got picked up for a third season because of its record-breaking season 2 premiere.
The show's break-out character, Cookie, looks like to be the key to make the rapper stop as he said "Empire's ratings took a huge hit. Okay I'll stop now. Cookie call me baby. I'll tell everybody to watch the show for you."
