“The Perished Land” fantasy series will surely become a big hit as Beta Film’s collaborates with “Game of Thrones” and “Rome” producers to bring to life the world of Talanton.
Producer Frank Doelger of the hit HBO TV series, “Game of Thrones” and producer Jonathan Stamp of “Rome” will create a 12-part fantasy series with Germany’s Beta Films. Deadline reported the announcement was made by Beta at Mipcom last Oct. 4 and has a target release date in 2017. Joining them as co-producers were Hofmann & Voges Filmproduktion and Rainmark Films.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that “The Perished Land” will center on a world known for its natural beauty, the fictional land of Talanton. Beta likened the fantasy world to that of “Lord of the Rings” meets “Avatar.” Talanton was described as a tribal land inhabited by benign and vengeful spirits, superstitions, rituals and the supernatural which will make it seem “raw, sensuous” and “at times shocking.”
“Game of Thrones” showrunner Doelger and “Rome’s” Stamp will be writing “The Perished Land” story that will be similar to human history with Talanton enduring its own Cold War, World Wars, collision of tyrannies, ideologies, crises of religions and resources. A multi-stranded narrative will unfold as a hero’s quest.
Beta Films chief Jan Mojto stated that the figure of high-end TV series it was generating or co-producing would increase from 30 hours a year this 2015 to 36 hours in 2016 and 48 hours in 2017. Most of these TV series would have a budget at an estimated $2.24 million an hour or more, as per Variety.
Aside from the much anticipated “The Perished Land,” Beta Films will also be featuring the life of the dictator-to-be from World War I to the beginning of World War II in a 10-hour miniseries entitled “Hitler.”
