Cheerios Suffers MASSIVE Recall After Manufacturer General Mills Cites Risk Of 'Adverse Health Effects' For People With Celiac Disease/Gluten-Allergy As Reason

Cheerios, the popular cereal brand just experienced a wide recall after General Mills cited "adverse health effects" as reason due to an ingredient containing allergens.

People reported that over one million boxes of both Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios were recalled after they were labelled "gluten-free" when in fact, they contain wheat that can trigger reactions in people with Celiac disease and gluten allergy.

Regarding the monetary risk of the recall, analyst Ken Goldman said that the company is more worried about customers losing trust to its product. He said "Our biggest concern is over reputational risk because the new gluten-free Cheerios just launched."

And although the company is recalling 1.8 million boxes of Cheerios in stores, warehouses and homes, the recall was reported to be only affecting just one percent of the company.

According to a report by NBC News, the recall affects the Cheerios batch made in July, which was produced at its Lodi, California facility. The cereal manufacturer said that wheat flour was "inadvertently introduced" to the gluten-free oat flour system. However, the company assures that this is an isolated incident.

The recall reportedly includes four days of production of the original Cheerios and 13 days of Honey Nut Cheerios. The cereal's official Twitter account also posted how consumers can identify if the product they bought, was affected by the incident.

Pop Sugar released a list of production dates and urged consumers to check its "Better If Used By Dates" on their boxes.
