Kawhi Leonard is out to prove that he's worth the $97 Million max deal contract. The young face of the Spurs just got a pay raise but instead of celebrating with his wads of cash, he's currently training hard to prove that he deserves his pay.
According to the San Antonio Express News, for the young Spur, work simply never stops. Max deals and tons of money are not enough reasons to distract the 2014 Finals MVP's insane work ethic.
When asked whether he went loose after he signed his contract, Leonard just said, "No, not at all," Slam Online has learned.
As reported, immediately after signing his contract, Leonard went to his native Southern California for some additional training. And as usual, he was accompanied by Spurs development coaches Chip Engelland and Chad Forcier.
Regarding the trip, Engelland said jokingly, "He only dragged us to the gym two times a day instead of three."
The 24-year athlete clarified that the money wasn't the exciting part of the deal, but the fact that it guarantees that he'll be an NBA player for at least five more years. Leonard said, "That's what I'm most happy about, I want to play 10 or more years in this league."
The financial upgrade has not deterred the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year from honing his craft. According to Steve Fisher, Leonard's former mentor, "Every shot he took looked like it was Game 7 of the Finals," he added, "It was perfection. Like, he never missed a shot."
It seems that Leonard's work ethic are having a profound effect on the team as he led the Spurs in both scoring and steals, while being second in rebounding.
The team's head coach Gregg Popovich have nothing but good words for the young small forward as he said, "He's got high goals, and I don't have any doubt that he's going to get better and better."
In a report by Fox Sports, Leonard has quickly become the Spur's offense and defense anchor and as proof, check out his NBA 2014-2015 highlight reel below.
