“Gotham” actor Robin Lord Taylor who portrayed The Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot announced Sunday, Oct. 11, at the New York Comic-Con during the Warner Bros. Television panel that Pee Wee Herman will characterize his father in the television series on FOX based on the comic book.
Paul Reubens has previously played Oswald Cobblepot’s father, Tucker Cobblepot, in “Batman Returns” (1992) directed by Tim Burton.
The “Gotham” actor was giddy with excitement when he announced, "We just found out that I do have a father and he will be showing up very soon, and he will be played by none other than PAUL REUBENS! AKA PEE-WEE HERMAN, IS PLAYING MY DAD! What the hell! Oh my god!"
Comicbook.com has learned “Taxi” star Carol Kane portrayed Gertrud Kapelput, The Penguin’s mother.
Now that the secret’s out of Paul Reubens guest appearing as The Penguin’s dad, “Gotham” fans will get to see him on Monday’s episode.
FOX’s “Gotham” series is a Batman prequel story. Paul Reuben comes back 23 years later to act on a younger version of the character he also portrayed in Tim Burton’s movie. Zap2it reported the plotline for the episode where Pee Wee Herman guest stars revolved around Captain Barnes portrayed by Michael Chiklis who together with Ben McKenzie’s Gordon will create a task force to bring the crime down.
On the one hand, Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma invites Chelsea Spack’s Kringle to go out on a date. On the other hand, James Frain’s Theo Galavan is held up with Robin Lord Taylor’s The Penguin.
Although the 63-year-old actor was famous for his work as Pee Wee Herman, he has also appeared in supporting roles in classic films such as “Blow,” “Mystery Men” and “The Blues Brothers.”
Meantime, Screen Crush dished that Pee Wee Herman’s appearance in “Gotham” will bring unknown circumstances but him being in the cast will make the show interesting.
“Gotham” airs on FOX at 8 p.m. Monday.
