“Grey’s Anatomy” continues to entice its fandom with all that’s happening with the rest of the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial.
Amid the not-so-long ago demise of the other half of MerDer, Derek aka McDreamy, Season 12 Episode 5 will bring Meredith to relive the pain and trauma she faced with her husband’s death.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 Episode 5 continues with the dinner party which Meredith, Amelia and Maggie totally forgot that they were hosting. Naturally, the three girls were in chaos as they tried to salvage the night and it was sort of running smoothly until Meredith opened the door to usher in Callie and her date. That’s when all the drama started. Callie’s new girlfriend, Penny, was none other than the red-haired resident who handled Derek when he was brought into the hospital after his car accident. The doctor who talked to Meredith out in the parking lot while the latter was sobbing that she was not able to save Derek’s life.
In the official promotional materials from ABC, the network responsible for bringing #TGIT, two sneak peeks from "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 Episode 5 showed Callie proudly introducing her new girlfriend, Penny, to everyone at the party. You have to forgive Dr. Torres, she's just proudly showing off the woman who made her smile again. Plus, she really was clueless of Meredith's connection to Penny.
As for Meredith, imagine what emotions were running through her heart when she saw the face that's embedded in her mind who will haunt her forever — the person who told her that her husband died because she was not skillful enough. Apparently, Meredith felt like she was squeezed into a dark place when she was forced to remember the nightmare, the day she walked in on her husband who was hooked to all sorts of hospital apparatuses.
Buddy TV revealed the only one at the party who noticed that something was amiss with Meredith was Alex. By the look on his face when he saw Meredith took off with a picture of her and Derek, he was pretty much alarmed and concerned.
Meanwhile, Samantha Sloyan, who plays Callie’s new girlfriend, Penny, will probably be seen prominently in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 as The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that showrunner Shonda Rhimes told them last month that Callie and Arizona will both have fresh female partners in the current season.
Aside from that, Episode 5 will mark the 250th episode of the medical drama from Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes.
