Gigi Hadid, the 20-year-old fashion model and TV personality is certainly not too young to add this new title to her career portfolio — music video director.
Imagine the blue ocean, supermodels in bikinis...and a VERY BIG slice of cake. This was Gigi Hadid's creative take for DNCE's music video for their new song "Cake By the Ocean."
Did it take a lot of effort to get her behind the camera?
Joe Jonas, DNCE's lead singer and boyfriend to the supermodel, told People at the Disaronno Wears Cavalli launch at Milk Studios, "It was her idea for the video and we were like f--- it, you should do the video, and she just ran with it."
Though the music video was co-directed by Black Coffee, the spotlight was definitely on Hadid as her boyfriend recounted, "She had a megaphone. She was a badass. Everybody really looked up to her to lead and she really came through and showed us that she could do it."
It looks like the face of Guess undoubtedly benefited from her roles in several music videos, such as Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" and Calvin Harris' "How Deep Is Your Love."
The four-minute-sixteen-second music video is an "all-around good time," described Huffington Post. Shot in Malibu with lots of screaming food fight spectators, the "Cake By the Ocean" video held the "First Annual International Cake Fight Championships," with models clad in Guess swimwear and social media personality The Fat Jewish throwing cakes at each other.
The rather literal interpretation seemed to have impressed the 26-year-old singer. He went on to praise his model girlfriend saying, "She's always had a creative eye so she came up with concept and we rolled with it, she was a good boss."
The official video uploaded on Youtube on Oct. 16 has garnered close to 600 thousand likes so far, proving that Hadid is more than just a pretty face, she could also possibly have a future at directing.
