The FBI has announced that the fatal shooting of a border patrol agent in Arizona earlier this week was the result of friendly fire.
Agent Nicolas Ivie, 30, and two other agents were shot during their mission at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, after a remote sensor at the Mexican Border was triggered. Ivie, who has been serving the U.S. Border Patrol for 4 years, was killed while a second agent was shot in the ankle and buttocks.
However, evidence seems to suggest that Ivie's death was the result of "friendly fire" that "involved only the agents", according to the statement released by FBI's Phoenix Division special agent James Turgal. Sources have indicated that the rugged environment where the shooting took place added difficulty for gathering evidence Ivie was survived by his two children and he was an active member of the Mormon Church.
The FBI said that investigation is still ongoing and no arrest has been made.
