Employers Checking up on your Facebook Etiquette

Numerous social networking sites are now part of the many ways of communicating with people and staying connected. However, when you sit down in front of your computer or laptop how much consideration do you take into the nature of the pictures, notes and wall posts and comments that you make? Facebook, for example is an infamous networking site of which even a little information and small amount of photos can reveal much about a person and their life-public and private. Although there are many features you can apply in order to control the privacy of your profile and regulate who can see certain or the whole part of your profile-caution is still warranted.

New research has shown that prospective and present employers are either snooping on Facebook to see their prospective employees profile or they are now outright asking for Facebook Login details. This is not astounding considering employers want to get a complete and honest look into the individuals which they will be hiring. Some argue that employers are overstepping the bounds of privacy as some such as Justin Bassett, according to the Associated Press reports, was asked to give in his Facebook user name and password. He subsequently closed his application. Nonetheless, other individuals in feeling in dire need of employment may not feel they have that alternative and may feel compelled to give in to the demands of their prospective employer.

Facebook is your gateway into what is going on in your head. Even the type of language and style you use is important as it is a reflection of yourself. So try not to reveal too many private parts of your lives with regards to personal information, love life, relationships, family situations or discord with others, ranting or unconstructively criticising others or your last employer. Avoid commenting on your shortcomings or disappointments with your previous jobs or bosses.

Furthermore, avoid posting pictures of you at parties, drinking or looking disgruntled. According to a survey completed by CareerBuilder, the primary reason for employer's throwing away potential employees' applications comes from them viewing unsuitable pictures, particularly related to partying, alcohol or drug use. An extra step in privacy could be changing your profile name in order to keep your personal life from prying eyes. It is wise to not present political views, or silly or sexual jokes. Birds of  feather tend to flock together, also skim through and reconsider the friends you have on your Facebook as the company you  keep can hint at who you are. Control the amount of chatting you do on Facebook and keep in mind that everything you type can be kept and recorded. Do not "poke" people, you are not children anymore. These are just some tips for Facebook etiquette you can implement in your own lives. Just remember you and your friends and loved ones are not the only ones keeping up to date with your life online.
