Despite the media blackout, Michael Schumacher continues to make headlines. And while he is currently under the extensive care of 15 medical experts 24/7 at the comforts of his home in Geneva, Switzerland, where a state-of-the-art medical suite was custom-built for his rehabilitation, the 46-year-old Formula One superstar is caught in a feud between the head of Schumacher's fans club and Lewis Hamilton for the latter's comments about the beleaguered F1 legend.
According to the German tabloid Kolner Express, Michael Schumacher's fans castigated the new three-time champion Lewis Hamilton after he was quoted comparing his achievements with the seven titles won by Schumacher.
"I've never done the things that Michael did to win my titles," Hamilton said, as quoted by Autoweek. "I won mine with my natural abilities only."
Hamilton's comments came as a reference to the divided opinions about Michael Schumacher's wheel-to-wheel tactics or the favoritism speculations within Ferrari and tire supplier Bridgestone. However, considering the current situation of Schumacher, who had suffered a serious brain injury due to an unfortunate skiing accident at the French Alpine resort of Meribel in December 2013, Schumacher's Kerpen-based fans club president Reiner Ferling said that Hamilton could have been more careful with his words.
"Hamilton should probably switch on his brain before he talks," Ferling said. "He should learn about what Michael achieved. I just say, pride comes before a fall."
Meanwhile, almost two years after the skiing accident that left Michael Schumacher with massive brain injuries, FIA President and close pal Jean Todt shared an update about Schumacher's current health condition. Todt revealed that Schumacher is "still fighting" in his recovery.
"I see Michael very often and Michael is still fighting," Ferrari team boss Jean Todt said, as per Daily Mail. "Michael is a close friend, his family is very close to me and I am very close to them as well. We must keep him fighting with the family."
In November 2014, it was reported that the seven-time F1 world champion was paralyzed and in a wheelchair after the former racing driver and Schumacher's good friend Philippe Streiff told French Radio about his pal's condition.
"He is getting better but everything is relative," Streiff said. "It's very difficult. He can't speak. Like me, he is in a wheelchair paralyzed. He has memory problems and speech problems."
Aside from sharing an update about Michael Schumacher's condition, Todt also commented on Lewis Hamilton's title triumph in Austin, Texas, which reminded him of Schumacher's record-breaking achievements.
"It was interesting last week after Lewis was world champion for the third time, you saw the figures," Todt said, as The Telegraph quoted. "I was very proud of what Michael did and sometimes you tend to forget what he did."
