Kevin Durant will be sidelined for 7 to 10 days, after sustaining a hamstring injury during last night's game against the Washington Wizards.
According to ESPN, Durant suffered the injury close to the end of the second quarter. The Thunder forward went for a hard drive to the basket that resulted in a foul. However, he landed awkwardly and was seen immediately grabbing his left leg.
Durant said, "After that foul, I came down a little awkward and landed on it a little harder than I wanted to, and it pulled."
On Wednesday morning, Durant underwent an MRI, in which experts confirmed the strain. But during the game, Kyle Singler substituted for him on the second half, due to Dion Waiters coming out late of the locker room because of "stomach issues."
As reported by Sports Illustrated, Durant is expected to undergo further re-evaluation after 10 days, updating the status and extent of his hamstring injury.
Before his latest injury, the 27-year-old player only participated in 27 games last season, after having three surgeries to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot.
When asked regarding his injury, Durant said that he will play whenever he feels right or feels ready to play again. He added that his previous injury was a long process for him to get back and lamented that getting injured again is unfortunate.
Injuries have always been the x-factor on athletes. Many NBA players who once had promising careers in the league was cut short due to major injuries. However, News OK reported that Oklahoma City Thunder's head coach Billy Donovan assured people that the injury was nothing to worry about.
Donovan said, "Thank God it's nothing too serious for him, we'll re-evaluate him in seven to 10 days to see where he's at, but for the most part, it's a blessing for Kevin that it's not something that is something really long term for him."
He further stressed that the players have been playing for a long time and perfectly understood the risk of injury every time they step inside the court. However, he was thankful that the injury is nothing too serious and Durant would not be sidelined for a long time.
Donovan said about Durant, "He'll work hard and get himself back, get himself healthy, and he'll pick up where he left off."
As of this season, Kevin Durant is averaging 28.1 points, 3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game. Although the Thunder will miss his production, they still have Russell Westbrook to fall back on for the meantime.
