Older and Unemployed?

Many older people find great difficulty in finding a job even with an abundance of experience and insight under their belt they never seem to either get an interview or secure a position. The hard economic times have no been having mercy on older workers many of whom have lost job security or cannot look for retirement in the near future as they would have anticipated. Nonetheless, other older workers may be seeking to stay active and involved and share their valuable knowledge with younger employees.

Unfortunately, ageism, the discrimination against age and stereotypes have posed barriers for older workers finding a job. Stereotypes impact potential employers and influence their decision making as many older people are viewed as being less energetic, having less vitality, alertness or merely wasting their time or would not take their job as seriously or treat it as a hobby as they advance towards their golden retirement years.

However, there are techniques and tips one can incorporate into your job search to better your chances of finding a job. These can include being fashionable by updating your appearance, staying shape, taking care of your physical appearance (hair, teeth, skin). Remember to have perseverance and not falter nor give up hope on your job search. Be diligent and patient. Have confidence in yourself yet keep your humility. Share what your strengths are yet avoid boasting too much.
