In the world of franchise filmmaking, spoiler reports, updates and rumors have always been the norm. However, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" writer-director James Gunn seemed to be disappointed by the hyped-up spoiler culture. As a matter of fact, he announced that he won't be addressing any further speculations about the film.
The upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" movie is set to commence its principal photography in 14 weeks, as Gunn revealed. Gunn has also set up shop at Pinewood Atlanta Studios to begin preparations while shooting scripts are already out to the main cast. But aside from that, here are 3 other details we've learned about the film so far.
1. A new member of the team will be introduced in the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
Even though the final casting additions are expected to be in the next few weeks, Screen Rant revealed that the newest member of the team, Mantis, who will be played by Pom Klementieff, will be introduced in the second installment of the film franchise.
2. Sibling rivalry between Gamora and Nebula plus Drax's family history to be explored in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
The upcoming sequel will have a more family-oriented element to it. According to Blastr, the sibling rivalry between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) will be explored in the sequel. There is also the possibility that fans will learn more about Drax's family history. Based on the comics, Drax is the father of another hero who serves in the comics alongside the Avengers and Guardians.
3. Peter Quill's father will be revealed in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
It has already been known for a while that the father of main protagonist Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) would be revealed in the upcoming sequel. And now, the character's identity has reportedly been uncovered, IGN noted. Unfortunately, writer-director James Gunn slammed the rumors about Star-Lord's dad, saying it's not going to be the same character who fathered him in the Marvel Comics nor will be one of the oft-suspended contenders.
"The rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth," he wrote, as per Collider. "We're creating a film that doesn't rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They're only a very small part of what we're cooking up for you."
Moreover, Gunn also took to his Facebook page to comment on spoiler culture and announced that he won't address any further rumors regarding the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which will hit the theaters on May 5, 2017. For Gunn's full Facebook message, click here.
