The 2015 American Music Awards was held on Nov. 22 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The star-studded awarding ceremony was hosted by Jennifer Lopez while Taylor Swift was the ultimate winner of the night, as she took home three awards including the "Artist of the Year" trophy.
Then again, it wasn't the awardees or the glamorous host that got the most attention on Sunday's event. Rather, even if the show had already been over, the talk of the town was about Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor's performance.
The duo's stage performance was the most memorable that night because they made the already hot night even hotter with their steamy, long kiss on stage. And not just plain kissing, they were in a passionate embrace complete with ass-grabbing!
The passionate making out of the singers was witnessed by more than 10 million viewers in the US and it caused the audience in the theater to go wild, which was understandable.
Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor sang "Marvin Gaye" and when the song was already at its end with the lyrics "Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on," the two locked lips to the surprised of everyone. And it did not end there; the pair kissed even more passionately while Charlie touches Meghan's derriere!
After the spectacular performance, Puth was interviewed backstage and the 23-year-old singer described his performance by saying, "There was a lot of making out. The dancers were making out and I'm sure some of the other dancers were making out. I think that's it though."
Nevertheless, with that kind of fiery kiss, people can only do something like that if they are romantically involved, so are they Charlie and Meghan a couple?
On Entertainment Weekly, a spokesperson denied that the two are dating and firmly insists, "They're just friends."
Puth also opened up about his "making out" with Trainor on stage and revealed the reason for the kiss on USA Today.
"Meghan and I are good enough friends that we can laugh about it now. At first, we were like, 'Holy sh*t, what did we just do?' I have a girl kind of in my life right now that I'm not making too public and I don't want people to get the wrong idea. But without Meghan's initial push, I wouldn't really be anywhere. She really helped me by being featured on my first record," Puth said.
He went on to explain, "When we were doing it live, we were like, 'OK, this one of the more major live performances. How are we visually going to show this and make it as impactful as the video?'" he said. "We were like, 'Should we kiss?'"
At the end of the day, the whole act was proven to be truly premeditated as during the red carpet, Puth already told PEOPLE that his stage with Trainor would be filled with "making out" and even joked to "Get ready" for it!
