Mobby Dick's 161st Anniversay Celebrated on Google

American novelist Herm Melville is being celebrated on his 161 st anniversary for his bedrock novel Moby-Dick. Many of you may already be familiar with the renowned novelist. For those who are not, Herman Melville was an American novelist, essayist, poet and short story writer who was born on August 1st, 1819 in the vibrant, growing New York City. The Whale, also known as Moby-Dick is a novel written by the New Yorker which was first published in 1851. He died having earning merely $10000 for his writing during his lifetime. Although he was not necessarily reaping in the financial profits at the time, his pieces have become timeless classics and thought-provoking literature.

Moby Dick is about the perils and adventures of a venturing sailor Ishmael on his journey on the whaleship Pequod commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael comes to realize that the captain is zealously venturing out for the sole objective of searching for Moby Dick, a magnificent white sperm whale. Captain Ahab has harbored disdain and bitterness towards the whale since he had wrecked his ship and ate off his leg.

The novel grew in popularity and Herman Melville is known for the talent and art of writing for many years now. This was in contrast to the past when he died on September 28th, 1891 at the age of 72 when no one remembered him. In the early 20th century his popularity resurrected and Moby-Dick has been appraised as one of the literary masterpieces of world literature. Others are: Mardi, Omoo, Isle of the Cross, Israel Potter, White Jacket, Pierre, John Marr and Other Sailors.

Herman Melville is now being celebrated by Google. They took the subject of the book and make a doodle out of it. It is in recognition of the book’s publication, its 161st anniversary when it was first published on October 18, 1851 in Britain. It was later published on November 14, 1851 in the United States and later to flourish abroad.
