Nike just unveiled a new Air Max 1 colorway called "The 6."
As reported by High Snobiety, Nike hosted a collection of sneakerheads in Toronto at the Soho House for the gran unveiling of the Nike Air Max 1 "The 6." The event included a first look at the forthcoming shoe, with a panel with "influencers" consisting of street wear model Adrianne Ho, Nike designer Erin Cochrane and sneaker lover and restaurant owner Bryan Espiritu and sneakerhead Joel Hernandez.
They all spoke on the legacy of the Air Max series, particularly the Air Max 1 and the sneaker culture on a wider scale.
The panel members remembered their first pair of Nike sneakers and discussed regarding Toronto's potential in music and fashion.
Mr. Espiritu discussed in detail regarding Toronto City's current style who said, "In terms of style in the city, I think it's changed a lot, in the beginning it was super 'matchy-matchy.' I wanted a red, black and white hat to match my cement IVs or whatever, but I think it has progressed, as younger kids coming up in the culture have a different style."
The sneaker expert added, "They start buying more low-profile shoes. In the West End, kids don't know the difference between wearing retro Jordans or wearing OG Jordans. They don't know the difference. But if you're downtown, then there is that athletic goth look, so it depends where you are."
Nike's official statement on the other hand was that, "Recently, the city of Toronto has earned pop-culture accolades, thanks to a cultural renaissance that spans sport, music and entertainment."
In a report by Sneaker News, Toronto, like New York City, has become a melting pot of ethnic cultures that has been put in the spotlight, due in part to the city's unofficial representative — Drake, a lifelong native.
As noted, there are some intricate details put into making the shoe like no other. The sneakers' sock liners are reported to be inspired by Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern lights.
In addition to that, the shoe also features the CN Tower, a maple leaf and "The 6" dotting the shoe in impeccable fashion.
Toronto Life noted that the sneaker was designed by Canada's own and also features practical additions that people from the country will appreciate like rubberized outsoles and military-grade leathers, which will protect it against the harsh weather of Canada.
The Nike Air Max 1 "The 6" will be available in Dec. 5 at Nike.com and select Toronto boutiques like Lost and Found, Community 54, Nomad and Capsule Footwear.
