You probably might have seen him before on TV. He’s widely remembered for his laid-back approach and for his happy, calm and contended temperament while painting mountains, clouds, and drawing "happy little trees."
With about 450 public TV stations throughout the US, his program, the Joy of Painting, reached more than 93 million households. It ran from 1983-1994 and has become the most known and most viewed art show in the history of TV. Re-runs of the show continues to be broadcasted, especially in the international scene from countries such as Mexico, Japan, Philippines, Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, and even in Costa Rica.
If you still don’t know him, I’m talking about Bob Ross. Today marks his 70th birthday and Google has decided to honor his legacy by featuring him as their Doodle.
Even if you’re not into art or painting in particular, most would concur that his tranquil, tending attitude is more of a form of therapy. His wet-on-wet technique in creating breathtaking landscapes has increased environmental awareness to respect nature and all wild creatures. His belief in everyone having some intrinsic artistic talent has created a philosophy of positivism that we are not capable of committing any mistakes… Those are just happy accidents…
