Ford is expanding their SYNC connectivity systems. It now includes and supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay 4G LTE and other Applink apps.
In the United States alone, Ford is installing its 2017 cars, equipped with SYNC 3, with support for these apps. Ford is starting with the new Ford Escape model.
Do you own a 2016 Ford car? Don't worry. Ford also thought about 2016 car owners. As long as your model is SYNC 3 equipped, you are eligible for an upgrade later in the year. Details for the specifics have not been released yet.
Ford executive director, Don Butler, in charge of Connected Vehicle and Services, explains that the SYNC technology allows users to connect their smart phone devices into their vehicles with out any inconvenience. Butler adds,
With SYNC, we move at our customers' pace - making it easy for them to maintain a connected lifestyle no matter their choice of smartphone, apps or services inside and outside their vehicle.
Android Auto is compatible with android OS devices with Android 5.0 or higher. CarPlay is compatible with your iPhone 5 and later models.
Currently, Ford has 15 million SYNC ready cars. The expectations for this new step will increase to 43 million by 2020, tripling current numbers. Making it easy for drivers and users to connect their devices to their in-car entertainment system while they are asking Siri for the nearest sushi restaurant or Google voice searching.
