Was your New Year's resolution to land a job and make the amount of money you think you deserve? Well, here you are, reading this article which, in all due honesty, is a not such a bad thing at all. At least you really do care for your well-being and future, right? Check out these 5 tips to jumpstart your job hunting before you get all slacker mode lazy.
1. Revamp your resume. Customize it, personalize it, and give your future employers a hint as to what you really want to do and what you're good at. Imagine how things could go easier and smoother if we were more honest about what we really want to do for and with our careers.
2. Recognize your best strengths. Be bold about it, no limits or whatever. Never underrate yourself and be honest with what you think you can be the best at but also those traits that you could actually improve and make use of.
3. Allow yourself to make some changes, but do it one step at a time. Just like the saying that goes; "Never jump into the lake without dipping your foot first to see if it's cold or not", making drastic changes without warning and warm-ups are unbelievably risky. Though they sound fun for the most part, you usually never know if it's always going to be good for you and the job that you've chosen. Evaluate the things that you want to change, the reasons as to why you want to change them and if it's really worth doing it.
4. Imagine yourself in a few years. Do you see yourself doing the same job after a period of time? If not, then maybe you need more thinking. It's either switching to something else that's more efficient for you, or actually giving yourself the talk that you can do it. It's only a matter of priorities and a positive outlook.
5. Remind yourself that you are not getting any younger. I guess that one doesn't need to be expounded greatly because it is what it is. We need a job because we need to eat. Some people might have the easy way on some things, but that doesn't mean it's the same for us. Different people, different struggles. All we have to do is keep our head up and put our best foot forward.
