MA Teenage Mother Arrested for Poisoning Baby

An adolescent mother in Massachusetts has allegedly poisoned the infant son of another juvenile adolescent mother. Police have arrested the perpetrator.

The infant boy is less than a year old. The baby was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport on Friday. He was treated and released.

Currently, the infant's mother is enrolled in a Dare Family Services residential program for pregnant and parenting teens in Newburyport.

Bizarrely, the police are alleging that another mother participating at the same institution has also allegedly added poison to the boy’s formula. Apparently this incident is unrelated to the latter.

Due to his age, the name of the baby and the mother will remain confidential and not be released to the public.

"The one that had allegedly done the poisoning had left the home and had run away and it was after she left the home that they realized what had actually happened there," Thomas Howard, city marshal of the Newburyport Police Department told WHDH News.

The young mother is being held without bail. She is awaiting arraignment in Newburyport District Court.

"I really can't [comment on that] because of the nature of the suspect being a juvenile and the victim also being a juvenile. [Because of their age] we're not able to give as much information," detective Matthew Simons told The Huffington Post.
