Ben Of Ben And Jerry's Has An Idea For A Bernie Sanders-Inspired Flavor

Vermont-based Ben and Jerry's ice cream company co-founder Ben Cohen has come up with a brilliant idea of naming a flavor after presidential candidate Ben Sanders as a show of support.

The flavor is going to be called "Bernie's Yearning", Cohen tells MSNBC during the Donald Trump rally in Burlington last Thursday. He also explained what the Bernie's Yearning experience. A big disc of chocolate shows up, covering the entire top of the ice cream, with just plain mint ice cream right under. The disc of chocolate is a representation of the 90 percent of wealth that has gone to the top 10 percent for the past 10 years.

"The way you eat it is that you take your spoon and you whack that big chocolate disc into a bunch of little pieces and you mix it around, and there you have it, Bernie's Yearning!" Cohen proudly said, carrying a "Bernie 2016" sign with him.

Since Ben and Jerry's was sold to Unilever back in 2000, Cohen, as well as his co-founder Jerry Greenfield, has lost their authority to make new flavors for the company. In clarification, Cohen states that this idea is only his own for now, for the company doesn't allow that much action when it comes to naming flavors after favored politicians. Despite the circumstances, both Cohen and Greenfield have always been expressive of their support towards Sanders, giving away free ice cream in May as an endorsement for the presidential candidate.

Although the founders haven't had their shot at legitimately launching a Sanders-flavored ice cream so fat, the company has featured politicians in the past, being President Barack Obama as the first one to inspire a flavor called "Yes Pecan", based on his campaign slogan "Yes We Can", after winning the 2008 election. The flavor consisted of buttery ice cream and "non-partisan" pecans.
