Microsoft did it again. The biggest app company in the world wants everyone to use Windows 10 alone. This is probably the main reason why it recently announced that only new processors will work with the OS upgrade.
Beginning with the latest 6th generation Skylake processor, Microsoft announced that future CPU's produced by Qualcomm, AMD and Intel will be compatible only with the current MS operating system.
The latest blog post of the company states that "Going forward, as new silicon generations are introduced, they will require the latest Windows platform at that time for support."
That means the only supported Windows platform for Qualcomm's '8996' silicon, Intel's 'Kaby Lake' silicon and AMD's 'Bristol Ridge' will be Windows 10.
Therefore, if you are buying a new PC, you won't be able to run it in Windows 7 or 8. This is despite the fact that old PCs do not normally fall short of the minimum specifications that the latest operating system requires.
With this announcement, Microsoft is intent on doing less work to make new harder compatible with older versions of Windows. The system won't work because it simply lacks the current updates.
But this doesn't mean that there will be no support for Windows 7 and 8 users. They will be able to get their necessary updates up to Jan. 14, 2020 and Jan. 10, 2023 respectively. However, they need to have their hardware be made compatible with these two operating systems.
For those who are using the latest PC models using Intel's sixth generation processors called Skylake, they are the ones that won't be supported in Windows 7 and 8.
For enterprise customers, Microsoft announced that it will maintain a list of approved Skylake systems that are designed to have support for Windows 7 and 8.1 up to July 17, 2017
