The match, like every other between Andy Murray and David Ferrer, was exciting and edgy. Murray defeated Ferrer 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-3 in a three hours and 19 minutes game.
There were a few scares in the game, like when Murray's attention got diverted to a bright blue umbrella belonging to a photographer. He lost focus for a bit; a misjudged shot forced him into a deuce but he recovered. Ferrer's game had been unraveling, and it ended with his final shot going wide.
The game's defining moment very likely came when the roof of the arena was closed near the start of the first set by tournament director Craig Tiley because of thunder and lightning forecasts. The declining wind proved to be a significant advantage for Murray, who learnt to playon hardcourts indoors in Scotland.
Murray remarked positively on Ferrer's efforts of keeping in shape and his hard work, praising his fight in the match and acknowledging his opponent's consistent career. Ferrer is about to turn 34.
Next, Andy Murray will play against 25 year old Canadian Milos Raonic, who is right-handed and currently ranks 14 in world ranking. The semi-final game will be played on 29 January, Friday. The match starts at 9:30 am GMT.
Murray has reached the final four times in the past (in the last six years), missing out on the opportunity in 2012 and 2014 only. He has not managed to bag an Australian Open win yet. The four finals he played were against Novak Djokovic - thrice, and Roger Federer in 2010.
