Drake has finally dropped his first single from his upcoming album Views From the 6 called 'Summer Sixteen', as reported by The Verge on Saturday.
The Canadian rapper debuted the song during his his OVO Sound Radio show on Apple's Beats 1, channeling his playfulness by dropping names of Hip-Hop cats Jay-Z and Kanye West over this track that was produced by Noah "40" Shebib, Boi-1da, and CuBeatz. Even the US President Barack Obama's name was not able to hide from the 6 God. Obama rooted for Kendrick Lamar during a YouTube Q&A with Adande Thorne, saying that Drake in an entertainer but Lamar is a better lyricist.
Drake raps: "Tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in, they bulletproof." In addition to his calling-out's, the rapper sang: "I used to wanna be on Roc-A-Fella, then I turned into Jay. Now I got a house in LA. Now I got a bigger pool that 'Ye (West). And look man, Ye's pool is nice. Mine's just big is what I'm saying."
Labelled as the most important album of his career, Drake even had Dj Khaled appearing at the end of the track. Due to an exclusive deal the rapper has with Apple Music, most of his tracks including Hotline Bling and Meek Mill diss track called Charged Up all debuted on Beats 1. What a Time to Be Alive, Drake's mixtape with Future was also previewed on his radio show the last time he hosted it.
The rapper announced the release date of his album to be April, but says we'll be getting a more specific date soon, since the album is still on the process of completion. Views from the 6 is a follow-up to his third album Nothing Was The Same. It has been in the works since 2014 when he first announced the title of the album.
