Mexico's most notorious drug lord and the CEO of Sinaloa Cartel Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman escaped a high-security prison in Mexico City 11 July of last year. Amazingly, an underground tunnel built under his prison shower was the key to his second escape from prison, as shown in a ">video "> surveillance.
The Sinaloa Cartel is responsible for bring up to 25% of illegal drugs to the U.S. If you think having escaped from prison twice is crazy, here are 5 more insane facts you need to know about the infamous El Chapo:
1. He got married to an 18-year-old beauty queen. He was reportedly between the ages of 50 and 52 when he married the beauty queen Emma Coronel Aispuro. Conflicting reports say that she was her third or fourth wife, and together they have twin baby girls.
2. His first prison term was comparable to a stay at the Ritz Carlton. According to reports, El Chapo partied hard with his female visitors and endless supply of cocaine.
3. Reportedly mistaken as El Chapo, a Mexican bishop who was also the cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church at the time was brutally shot. The gunmen apparently mistook him for the world famous cartel king, as reported by"> The New Yorker. To this day, the case has remained as is and not yet been solved since then.
4. His own son was killed by 40 gunmen. In his family, El Chapo was not the only one who was active in those kinds of wrong-doings. Edgar, who was only 22 then, was killed by a rain of bullets from 40 gunmen in May 2008. He was outside a shopping mall in Sinaloa.
5. He made it to the Forbes list of The World's Most Powerful People in 2009. With a net worth of $1 billion, he was also named as one of the richest in the same year. El Chapo remains as one of the biggest drug lords in the history up to this day.
