Amazon has always been known to be innovative. Their recent venture into the drone industry is one flexible feature they are working on. Now, Amazon is ready to take on Game Companies with their own video game world with Lumberyard - a high-end game engine.
Amazon has never ceased to amaze consumers when it comes to retail, digital and technological features. Now, the online retail giant aims to take a jab at video games and hopefully cement a foothold.
Lumberyard is Amazon's newest venture. It is a high end game engine that allows game developers like Xbox, PlayStation, etc to create games - what's different about this? Amazon will reportedly not charge the game makers for royalties or subscription fees. Sounds like a sweet deal for gamers and developers everywhere.
So, the question is - how will the company monetize this new platform? Simple, with the use of its already established Amazon Web Services - the could base of the company. What's interesting is that the company has also integrated Twitch into the engine. Twitch was the game stream service Amazon purchased for $970 million in 2014.
What are users going to discover in the next few months? The engine will be supporting mobile games and Virtual Reality content for Oculus.
Mike Frazzini, vice president of Amazon Games released a statement regarding the enthusiasm of the new venture. "When we've talked to game developers, they've asked for a game engine with the power and capability of leading commercial engines, but that's significantly less expensive,"Frazzini said.
How about multiplayer games? Not to worry, Amazon will be introducing a separate sevice.
Because Amazon is establishing its presence in the gaming world and quite touching the Virtual Reality shore, the world sees the company as continuing to push for technology at a lesser price.
