Google Inc's 'Safer Internet Day' celebrations this year includes free 2GB storage on its cloud platform, Google Drive. Participating netizens get to win the permanent cloud units as a reward for running a special Security check on their Google Account. The offer is valid for Google accounts that run the security check by February 17, 2016.
The free cloud storage offer was announced by Alex Vogenthaler, the head of Google Drive product management in a blog post.
This is for the second consecutive year that Google Inc is offering its account holders free storage on Drive, rewarding those who opt to run the security-check with the cloud space.
Free 2GB For Secure Settings
In his blog post, the product manager said that the free offer was to let users gain the most of the 24/7 security protection that Google has been offering.
According to Vogenthaler, all data transiting to Google Drive is always encrypted. At the storage-level in Google's data centers, secure features take precedence. Since its data centers are built as per its specifications, security is optimized, he said.
One Google account can gain the permanent 2 gigabyte storage offer for a period of two years. If the same account is used on multiple devices, the storage space remains 2GB, Drive website's help page clarified.
The cloud store can be used to store all media and can be accessed with the secured Google account only. Users can purchase additional storage, if 2GB is insufficient.
Security Checkup
Google also has an optional two-step verification process, with a recovery email account, security question parsing, followed by recovery phone number notification.
The first step in the Checkup run is the recovery information associated with your account. The information allows Google to reach the account owner, in case of 'unusual activity' or when the user is locked out of the account.
The second step in the Checkup run is to review 'recent activity.' If you are suspicious about particular access-devices to your account, it allows you to remove them at 'Devices & Activity' page.
The two-minute security checkup is Google's way of letting account holders understand the round-the-clock security layers it runs. Account holders stand to benefit with free massive cloud storage space for the quality time spent in security their accounts.
