Making great impressions on the first day of work is a challenging feat. However, it is not impossible. Here are some tips for you to help you have a memorable first day at work - something that your colleagues will definitely remember in a positive way.
Before your first day of work, do these two important things to help you ace that first day.
Get enough sleep
People always say that "sleep is for the weak." However, this is not true at all. When you are preparing for your first day of work, you have got to sleep as much as you can because of several reasons, including the following two:
1. You won't be able to get as much sleep as you could when you don't have any job.
2. You don't want to look haggard on your first day.
Also, getting enough sleep would allow you to actually be active on the first day and absorb important information (like your boss' complete name and where the comfort room is located).
Familiarize your way to the office
Not knowing what road to take could lead to a negative first-day impression, and you don't like that. So, in order to avoid this from happening, dedicate one day to familiarizing the route from your house to the office. If you plan on taking shortcuts, then better do it days before your first day. Take note of the minutes it would take you to arrive from point A to point B using route A, route B, and so on.
Then, on the first day, you can follow some of the tips to help make a great lasting impression at work:
Arrive early, stay late
Now, you know what those before-your-first-day tips are. By arriving early at work (hopefully, not only for the first day) would give the impression that you are a punctual person and that you value your time. This would also mean that you actually take this job seriously.
To add, it is actually good to stay longer at the office. Do not immediately leave when the clock strikes 5 o'clock sharp. Observe what time most of your colleagues leave, and then maybe follow the pattern.
Have a positive attitude
Frowning on your first day is a bug no-no. It would actually give them the thought that you are not happy about landing this job. Instead, reflect a happy, vibrant, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
Take initiative
Do not wait for orders. Once you've completed your responsibilities, ask around and know if they have more things for you to do. Volunteer in some minor jobs that you think you can do. However, if you are unsure, ask your boss. This would avoid jeopardizing things.
