ESPN commentator Rob Parker has been suspended following some controversial comments he made about Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins. Parker made his comments on the Redskin’s rookie sensation during an episode of “First Take” this past Thursday. ESPN made the announcement regarding the suspension on Friday by saying that Parker is said to be “suspended until further notice” while a full review is being conducted in order to shed more light on the situation.
Parker made some racial comments directed towards RG3 when he asked whether the standout rookie was a “brother or a cornerball brother.” His comments immediately caused outrage, but the commentator responded by calling his critics “silly” and “uninformed.” Parker only stopped tweeting once he found out that one of his critics happened to be one of the executives from ESPN.
Robert Griffin II, Griffin’s father, commented on the incident by saying that Parker should be more definite with his comments and take responsibility for his actions. He also added that he believed Parker said those things about his son for the sake of stirring things up and causing a firestorm in the media. No further details have been given by ESPN regarding the length of the suspension, but they have made it clear that they will be evaluating their next step.
