There are those who work hard in order to pay their bills. There are also those who work hard because it's their passion. However, seldom do we see people who hard because, first, it pays the bills and, second, because they actually love what they do.
In other words, not all of us are lucky enough to sweet spot between your passion and job.
So, what can we do to balance what we do for a living with what we love doing? Here are some tips:
1. Change your career
Do you struggle with finding a company that makes both ends meet? Maybe it's time for a change in career. For instance, if you are a writer by profession who also happens to be a musician or who loves music, in that, case and is stuck with a hard news writing company, then maybe it's time you reconsider. Why not look for a writing position in a music company? That way, you get to write about something you love!
However, if the above-mentioned tip is not applicable, then consider the following question, as posted by in Monster:
Is it financially sustainable?
Will making the big switch allow you to be financially stable? Will it provide for your needs?
You have to think about this before you make your decision. See if it is worth the sacrifice. If not, then you would have to think of other options like taking up what you love as a hobby or a part-time job and not as your main source of income.
For example, you have recently found out that you love interacting with small kids and teaching them simple lessons. However, you cannot be a teacher since you don't have the license to teach. What you can do, in this case, is to go on with your current job (whatever it is) and take teaching kids on the side. That is, you can offer some tutoring lessons to kids who need academic help.
Being able to do what you love, even if outside your career, is said to help individuals perform better in the office.
2. Volunteer
Another option for you is to volunteer for your cause. If you can't find a company that would pay you for doing what you love, then consider social work. You can do this either once a month, weekly, or when-available basis.
That point here is you don't have to give up your passion. Any job can be yours as long as you keep your passion alive - either on the side or as part of you day job.
