Today is absolutely not the end of the world – no catastrophic booms or changing of magnetic poles. That only means one thing, life goes on.
There is this one boom though that we should be looking forward to, and no, it’s not the fireworks display on New Year’s Eve - it’s the hiring boom that career counselors are expecting in 2013. But the question surrounding the strength of our local economy will possibly dampen the hiring season compared to the previous years.
Nonetheless, there has been an added 146,000 vacant jobs in the last month alone, far exceeding the 85,000 jobs that experts have predicted. And with the Christmas shopping season showing signs of strength, the job market is expected to get even bigger this December.
According to Robert Meier, president of a Florida-based employment seeking firm, Job Market Experts, due to the normal business cycle, the first quarter has historically been the best time to look forward to hiring. “Companies are lying low,” he said. “But now is when they do talent evaluation. If you get in the evaluation cycle, the odds of you getting hired increases.”
Meanwhile in the world market, there is an expected hiring boom in high-tech fields that are primarily ushered in by smart phones and the development of an assortment of mobile applications.
