At 10:10 a.m. EST, the Korean sensation, Park Jae-sang, more popularly known as Psy, has become the first person to have a video reaching 1 billion views on the Internet. Psy's "Gangnam Style" has been scorching hot on YouTube since its release in July 15, 2012 and has currently 1,008,286,535 hits and counting.
It has surpassed Justin Beiber’s, “Baby,” published on February 19, 2010 with 813,583,969 views to date, as the most viewed video on YouTube last November 24. He did this at a rate 11 times faster than Beiber’s. With an estimated 76.4 views/second, roughly over 6.5 million views/day, the viral video is set to gain more momentum in the coming months.
If you can’t see Psy busting out his Gangnam moves on stage, you’ll see him actively engaging with U.N. Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, or as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
