Former Owner Of Texas Rangers Dies At 75

Brad Corbett, the former owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, passed away this Christmas Eve at the age of 75. Corbett owned the Texas Rangers from 1974 to 1980 and was not afraid to pull the plug on underperforming managers during his reign. Pamela Corbett-Murrin, the daughter of the former owner told the Associated Press that he (Brad) passed away peacefully in his sleep.

The Texas Rangers released a statement saying that they were saddened to learn of their former owner’s death. They described his tenure as an owner as an era marked by a “passion and drive to bring a winning team from North Texas.”

With Corbett manning the reigns, the team went through six different managers in a span of six years with four coming in during the 1977 season. The Rangers also had their first four successful seasons under Corbett and even finished second in the American League thrice. Their 94 wins from the 1977 season stood as a team record until 1999.

Corbett was also heavily involved in the team’s decision making process which included player transactions. Corbett is also remembered for trading away three Hall of Famers during his time as an owner, namely Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins, and Bert Blyleven.
