When a job seeker is in need to put their resume on top of the list online in search for a job opportunity, applying the right keywords could help them do so.
Online job hunting has become more like a guessing game, where all the factors that a job seeker puts on a resume to market their experience and qualification to reach in the hand of an employer usually comes down to using the right keywords.
Companies often depend on computer software programs that receives thousands of applicant's resume for a recruiter to review where it is likely narrowed down to a specific keyword. Although it is unfortunate for a job seeker because these keywords aren't instructed in the job description.
Former human resources executive and founder of the website absoluteabby Abby Kohut, suggested that the reasonable way to get in to the applicant tracking systems (ATS), is for an applicant to put themselves in the shoes of a recruiter, and taking a guess to what phrase there going to search for to catch the right applicant for the position.
Kohut said, "When it comes to the automated systems, the problem you have is that the only way a recruiter is going to actually find you is if you have keywords in your resume that they have in their brain at the time, the person who shoots to the top is the person who has more than one keyword."
Once a recruiter identifies the keyword, it has to be used as soon as it comes up in a resume or other possible forms, in order for it to get noticed by the ATS.
Many experts introduced this method of recruiting where it has been called the "recruiting black hole", for the reason that many good resumes line in, then never to be seen again.
