Stephen King’s ‘Dark Tower’ Movie Adaptation Confirmed; Film To Star Idris Elba And Matthew McConaughey

Stephen King's "Dark Tower" movie adaptation is now in the works.

Entertainment Weekly reported that a film version of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" is finally confirmed. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey have been revealed to take on the roles of the gunslinger and the mystical man in black, respectively.

"The thing is, it's been a looong trip from the books to the film," the author emphasized.

"When you think about it, I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little sh-tty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now. I'm delighted, and I'm a little bit surprised."

"Dark Tower" movie director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel is best known for his 2012 Danish film "A Royal Affair" and co-writing the Swedish version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

The director revealed that production for "The Dark Tower" movie will begin in South Africa in seven weeks. Moreover, Sony Pictures plans to make it available in theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.

"What Stephen King does best is mixing the everyday, or what you might call the mundane, with the fantastical," Arcel said. "In my view, ['The Dark Tower'] novels are a mix between sci-fi and fantasy and modern times. That exact mix is so Stephen King."

"The Dark Tower" movie will begin in the middle of the story instead of starting with the plot of 1982's "The Gunslinger," which is the first book in the series.

"It's official: The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed," Stephen King tweeted earlier this week. The author tagged Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba in the post.

According to The Washington Post, "The Dark Tower" series is Stephen King's eight-book account of Roland Deschain's search to find, as the name describes, the dark tower. The book series also chronicles Deschain's aim to take revenge on The Man in Black.
