Susan Bennett: The Voice Behind Siri Gets Personal In Brockport

Susan Bennett has been reading through senseless gibberish threads since 2004. Up until October 4 2011, her not pretentious job would land her to become an international sensation.

Bennett has done the voice-over behind Siri for Apple, the snarky common voice heard on iPhones including other Apple devices that illustrates answers to questions based on the user's need.

At the Tower Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, Bennett lectured her encounter with the accidental brush that brought her to fame as a piece for the College located in Brockport McCue Lecture Series.

Bennett said, "She's a feisty chick", explaining that Siri when translated in Norwegian means, "Beautiful woman who guides you to victory." Also adding that, "She's a digital voice, but digital voices do come from human voices."

Bennett read out loud a few Siri poetry after a short brief history, from lines that she read during a highlighting session that was used to document sounds and combination. Then a programmer would chop the vocal sounds through a sequencing process which they interconnect each variation of words together.

Brockport President Heidi Macpherson in regards to Bennett's introduction, explained that the purpose to the series of lecture was to emphasize on an individual's skill to seek careers and to highlight the multitude of pathways to success.

Bennett said, "It's a career that I never really expected to have, as much as I may jokingly complain about Siri, it certainly has turned into something cool for me. At this stage in my life, I've found a new career and I'm really enjoying it."
