There is some good news today for those looking for retail work. In preparation for its busiest selling season, The Home Depot announced it plans to hire 80,000 seasonal workers across the country.
Home Depot spokeswoman Kim Leslie said about half of these seasonal jobs traditionally turn into permanent positions with the company.
In addition, Home Depot has an effort to match military veterans with job spots. The Online Military Skills Translator portion of the company matches unique military skills with positions within the company.
Home Depot will be offering 10,000 more jobs nationwide from last year in preparation for spring, the retailers busiest shopping season. The company anticipates consumers will buy more this year as the economy slowly improves, especially in the housing industry, which has shown signs of a more consistent recovery in the last few months.
"Spring is always a special season for us, when we can offer employment opportunities for literally tens of thousands of Americans," Tim Crow, Home Depot's executive vice president for Human Resources, said in a release. "We find some of our best associates during our peak season, and many of them have built long, meaningful careers with us."
Home Depot started constructing a 1.1. million square-foot "fulfillment center" warehouse in McDonough for online orders. The facility will add 250 jobs.
