"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will reportedly be cancelled. This comes after the series has been moved from its original Thursday slot to Friday.
CDL reported that "TVD" is facing cancellation. Apparently, this was brought about by Nina Dobrev's exit from the series.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 is the first season without Dobrev, who portrays Elena Gilbert. Moreover, it is said that the series is experiencing a decline in viewership, with less than half the viewers it had when the actress was there.
According to IBT, several fans took to Twitter to express that they will no longer watch "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 when Nina Dobrev announced her departure from the series. It was rumored that the actress' exit stemmed from her issues with Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed.
Last April, the "Final Girls" star confirmed that she will not be in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. YHM reported that Dobrev made the announcement on Instagram.
"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," she posted. "I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger."
"Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful," Julie Plec said in a statement. "After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of 'The Vampire Diaries' has reached a level of closeness that I don't think any of us ever expected."
Meanwhile, with "The Vampire Diaries" season 7's rumored cancellation, Parent Herald reported that Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley will most likely star in spin-off series, "The Originals." Apparently, fans are excited over the possibility and have already shipped Klaus and Caroline, a.k.a. Klaroline.
It was previously reported that the series may end with this season. Moreover, Ian Somerhalder may be leaving after this season to focus on his family with Nikki Reed.
