Toyota Highlander 2017 Gets a New Look, 8-Speed Transmission

The 2017 Toyota Highlander receives some updates that include revised styling, an 8-speed automatic transmission, engine stop-start, and the addition of a sporty SE variant.

The Toyota Highlander features a third-row seat that provides more room for more passengers. The model is related to Lexus RX and has a budget-friendly price as compared to other midsize crossovers.

Crossovers of all shapes and sizes are, according to AutoBlog, the "hottest sellers on dealership lots across the United States, and with three powertrain options including a hybrid, front- or all-wheel drive and six trim levels."

The existing Highlander made its way to the market as a 2014 model. However, this time, it would be given a different touch. The 2017 model will have some updates that include an 8-speed automatic transmission, revised styling, engine stop-start, and a sporty SE variant.

The SE variant, however, is just a trim. Opting for this one would mean you will get a 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, black elements around the exterior, stiffened suspension, and black leather trim in the cabin.

Furthermore, according to CS Monitor, the "standard powertrain for the 2017 Highlander remains a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, rated at 185 horsepower. This engine is still mated to a 6-speed auto."

With this Highlander, you would also see a full complement of advanced safety tech, including lane-departure warnings, automatic braking, Pedestrian Pre-Collision, auto high-beams, and radar-based automatic cruise control. Highlander Platinum, on the other hand, also is equipped with a useful Bird's Eye View Camera.

It will make its debut during the 2016 New York Auto Show. It will also be displayed in several showrooms by fall. The pricing has not been disclosed; however, reports have it that it will be announced closer to the market launch. For those who are wondering, CS Monitor is guessing that the starting figure to remain under $30k.
