Oculus Rift Release Date News: Console Better Than PlayStation VR, Sony Admits

The Oculus Rift release date has been confirmed for Mar. 28, 2016. Will the console be better than PlayStation VR?

In an interview with Polygon, PlayStation executive vice president Masayasu Ito shared his thoughts on the Oculus Rift and their own PlayStation VR. He admitted that the console may has lesser power in terms of hardware.

"If you just talk about the high-end quality, yes, I would admit that Oculus may have better VR," he told the publication. "However, it requires a very expensive and very fast PC."

Ito continued that the biggest advantage for PlayStation VR is that it works with PS4. "It's more for everyday use, so it has to be easy to use and it has to be affordable," he added. "This is not for the person who uses a high-end PC. It's for the mass market."

According to Engadget, the Oculus Rift has a higher screen resolution (2160 × 1200) than its console-centric rival. It also has a wider field of view at 110 degrees.

The Oculus Rift release date will happen later this month. Recently, the VR console's cost has been announced at $599.

The initial Oculus Rift release date was Mar. 28 but was later changed to April. It seems that there have been a lot of preorders for the console.

Aside from the VR headset, fans can get a sensor, Oculus Rift games such as "Lucky's Tale" and "EVE: Valkyrie," cables, a remote for the console as well as an Xbox One wireless controller. The Oculus Touch will be available later this year.

Other Oculus Rift games that have been confirmed are "Gunjack" and "Elite: Dangerous." "Gunjack" is priced at $9.99.

In the game, players will be placed on a gun turret to save a deep space mining vessel from pirate invasion. The game is set in the "EVE Online" universe. Frontier Developments founder and CEO David Braben made the announcement to Ars Technica for "Elite: Dangerous."
