Comcast is rolling out in Atlanta its gigabit internet service to consumers. As the company shows competitive effort in going against Google Fiber, where a user if signed up to a 36 month contract for a rate of $70 per month will be offered an upstream capped at 35Mbps.
According to DSL Reports stating, for those who are going for an option without the contract will be positioned with same type of data caps that's being trialed in Atlanta. By ridding the caps, subscriber must pay an extra $35 per month.
President of Comcast Central Division Bill Connors said, "Our Atlanta customers will be among the first in the world to enjoy this new Gigabit technology, and we're looking forward to learning more from these early adopters about how they take advantage of these ultra-fast speeds. The capabilities of DOCSIS 3.1 are incredibly exciting, and we are the first to market with a Gigabit offering that runs over our existing cable infrastructure."
If a user wants to proceed with the trial, they would need to register into their Xfinity account, once they receive a trial offer, users can commence signing up to the service to be switched over Comcast, where they can also give feedback on the workings of the service.
During the announcement, the company indicated the fee as promotional, suggesting a higher rate in the future. Although the service provider mentioned more offerings of price point when trial ends, it was not made clear whether they're planning to keep the rate of $70 per month.
