For those among you in the gaming community who have been logging altogether far too many hours on the PS3 lately, you may have missed the fact that BioShock Infinite released today. Don't worry, we'll catch you up to speed on the highly anticipated new release from Irrational Games.
"Are you afraid of God?"
"No, but I'm afraid of you."
This is how BioShock Infinite launches the player into the world of the game's hero Booker DeWitt, a captivating first few lines to say the least. It only gets deeper from there, as a quote from Rosalind Letuce flashes onto the screen:
"The mind of the subject will desperately struggle to create memories where none exist."
Suddenly, you find yourself in a rowboat, bobbing and swaying as two others row you through a wicked storm off the coast of Maine, 1912. They are talking to each other, but it takes you a moment to realize their discussion is about you. With that, you set sail into the magical world of Columbia, and begin your journey through the awe-inspiring landscape of BioShock Infinite.
I won't divulge any more of the game than that. Needless to say, this is an attention-strangling introduction that immediately engulfs the user into this new BioShock world. No wonder the game has debuted to such fantastic reviews.
So far critics have been raving about the more intellectually stimulating aspects of the game, but also admit that BioShock Infinite is the complete package. The story line is stellar, game flow ebbs and flows at just the right times, and the visuals are, well, astounding.
"As a game, BioShock Infinite has its successes and its falterings consistent with any suitably complex piece of interactive entertainment. As a story, as an exercise in drawing the player into a believable and relevant world, as proof of exactly what a videogame can mean to a person ...Well, I already said it. BioShock Infinite is damn near perfect," lauds Destructoid's Jim Sterling.
And it's not just him. It is literally impossible to find a credible negative review of BioShock Infinite. Gamespot gave it a 9/10. PC Gamer gave it a 91%. IGN gave it a whopping 9.4/10. Everyone seems ready to fully engulf themselves in the next installment in the highly successful BioShock saga. Are you?
